The Swiss Finance & Property Group (SFP Group) held its second virtual SFP Swiss Real Estate Funds Day on 28 January 2022. Around 300 viewers took part in the live broadcast. In addition to traditional topics and financial matters, one particular focus this year was on ecological and innovative aspects of real estate management.
This year, the SFP Group held its traditional SFP Swiss Real Estate Funds Day virtually for the second time. Simultaneous interpreting into French was provided for the event, which was held in German and English.
After Adrian Murer (CEO of the SFP Group) welcomed the participants and gave an introductory speech, Nicolas Di Maggio (CEO of Swiss Finance & Property Ltd) provided a macroeconomic overview of the Swiss indirect real estate investment market.
This year's speakers covered a wide range of topics. Jürgen Zimmermann, Fund Manager Real Estate Switzerland at UBS, talked about the challenges and opportunities faced by individual funds and, above all, how much office space will still be needed after these times of working from home. Robert Varley, Head Real Estate Product & Distribution Switzerland at Schroders, discussed the trend for commercial property and the shifting preferences of investors who invest in the various different sub-sectors.
In addition to analysing various segments of the market, the agenda included the categorisation of single-issue funds, which Ulrich Braun, Managing Director Global Real Estate at Credit Suisse, reported on in detail. Dr Cledan Mandri-Perrott, Co-Head Investments at SFP Infrastructure Partners Ltd, talked about the different possibilities for investing in infrastructure. Jonathan Martin, Senior Manager at Edmond de Rothschild REIM, used a specific investment product to provide an exceptionally interesting insight into the real estate market in the region surrounding Geneva.
Finally, keynote speaker Prof. Dr Philippe Block, Professor of Architecture and Structural Engineering at ETH Zurich, gave a convincing and impressive presentation on the unconventional possibilities that are available for sustainable and innovative construction, and what obstacles we still need to overcome in Switzerland in order to achieve our targets with respect to sustainability.
The whole event was moderated by Sarah Lenz, the SFP Group's Media and Communications Manager.
